New business:

  • After the primary election and subject to membership approval, the Red Rock Democratic Club will donate up to $5,000.00 for a slate of Nevada Democratic candidates.

Program:

Keynote speaker Launce Rake, Communications Director of the Progressive Leadership alliance of Nevada, discussed the environmental impact of the piping water from White Pine County.   Environmental impacts include defoliation, alteration of wildlife habitation that may cause extinction of species, and desertification creating dust storms in Salt Lake City and the Midwest.   Alternative solutions involve the elimination of 40,000 acres of grass and the controlled growth in the Las Vegas Valley as well as establishing a coalition of Western states to desalinate water from the Gulf of California.  Imperial Valley growers could use desalinated water rather than water from the Colorado River.
